Gadsden County’s High School High Tech program is off to a great start this year. We have many new, exciting, and educational events planned for this year. In November, the students took a field trip to Florida A&M University (FAMU), where they toured the main campus of the university as well as the Learning Development & Evaluation Center (LDEC). During the campus tour, students learned about the campus’ history as well as the history of individuals that have buildings on campus named after them. The students were given an overview of the degrees and programs the University offers. The students were able to explore through the campus bookstore and the student union building. During the tour of the LDEC, the students learned about all the programs in place to assist students with disabilities. The students were then able to try out the different technological devices that can provide assistance in the learning process.
In January, the students attended an AmeriCorp workshop where they learned about all the branches of AmeriCorp and how they could get involved. In February the students will be visiting the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Crime Lab. In March the students will tour Tallahassee Community College (TCC) campus. In April, the students will be visiting the Florida Stated National Magnetic Lab and the Florida State Magnet Lab. The students will soon be gearing up for summer internships through resume writing workshops, mock job interviews, as well as guest speaker presentations on Dressing To Impress and First Impressions. The students will also be taking part in a Service Learning Project in conjunction with Project Impact.
