It is with great pleasure that we share with you an outstanding program that is available to high school students with disabilities that are interested in preparing themselves for life after high school. High School High Tech is a national program that focuses on students with disabilities and prepares them during their high school years to seek higher education in order to become active members of the technology-based workforce upon college graduation. Those students involved with the program are supported in their exploration of various career opportunities in the fields of technology, science, and math. Students have an opportunity to visit area businesses, participate in internships, field trips, and other related activities.
One of 32 statewide programs awarded a grant from The Able Trust; Ability 1st is celebrating the 7th year of the High School High Tech Program in Leon County. Over thirty students from area high schools are currently participating in the High School High Tech programs and activities.
In February 2006 Ability1st was awarded a grant from The Able Trust and Vocational Rehabilitation to expand the High School High Tech program to Gadsden County. There are currently twenty East Gadsden High School students participating in the High School High Tech programs and activities.
